10. For a one-circuit steering box, the seal (6)

should be removed as follows:

-

Close off the delivery-pipe connection

(P) using a plug.

-

Connect a hydraulic pump, which can

generate a pressure of approx. 150 bar,

to the return pipe connection (R).

-

Cover the opening at the steering box

input shaft to prevent any oil splashes.

-

Using the hydraulic pump, gradually

increase the pressure until the seal (6) is

driven from the steering box.

-

Remove the hydraulic pump and the

plug.

11. For a dual-circuit steering box, the seal (6)

should be removed as follows:

-

Close off the pipe connections P1, P2,

R1, C1 and C2 using plugs.

-

Connect a hydraulic pump, which can

generate a pressure of approx. 150 bar,

to pipe connection R2.

-

Cover the opening at the steering box

input shaft to prevent any oil splashes.

-

Using the hydraulic pump, gradually

increase the pressure until the seal (6) is

driven from the steering box.

-

Remove the hydraulic pump and the

plugs.

Installing the input shaft oil seal
1.

Check the oil seal chamber (6) for rough

edges, grooves and residual seal particles.

2.

Place guide sleeve (A), special tool

(DAF no. 1240095), on the gearing of the

input shaft (7) so as not to damage the new

seal (6).

3.

Grease the inside of the new seal (6) and

install the seal, with its spring side towards

the steering box, into the steering box.

4.

Tap the seal (6) carefully into the chamber

using a plastic mallet and driver (B), special

tool (DAF no. 1240095).

Check whether the groove for the circlip (5)

is entirely free.

Make sure that the seal (6) is not fitted into

the chamber too deeply.

5.

Check that no parts of the seal (6) were left

behind during its installation. Remove these

particles, if any.

6.

Install a new circlip (5). Place the lower circlip

lip into the groove and turn the circlip

anticlockwise while pushing it slightly into the

groove.

7.

Check whether the steering box is still in the

central position, using the markings.

8.

Check the coupling sleeve (4) gearing and

slide the coupling sleeve onto the input

shaft (7).

9.

Fit a new O-ring (3) to the right-angle

transmission (2).

10. Check that the right-angle transmission is in

the centre position using the marks and fit

the right-angle transmission (2) onto the

steering box (8).

11. Fit the attachment bolts (1) of the right-angle

transmission (2) and tighten them to the

specified tightening torque. See 'Technical

data'.

12. Connect the pipes.

13. Fit the steering shaft to the steering box input

shaft. The groove (A) in the coupling must be

aligned with the mark (B) on the input shaft of

the steering box.

Check that the steering shaft is

correctly fitted to the input shaft, so

that the bolt can be fitted in the

recess (C).

14. Fit the new, original bolt and nut in the

universal joint.

Tighten the bolt to the specified torque, see

'Technical data'.

15. Fit the headlight unit.

16. Fit the front plate.

17. Top up steering oil and bleed the system.

18. Now check the steering box and pipe

connections for leaks.

19. Make a test drive. After the test drive re-

check the steering box and pipe connections

for leaks.

Clean the steering box and the surrounding

area.

2.

Remove the lock nut (2).

3.

Remove the attachment bolts (3) of the side

cover (4).

4.

Collect the steering oil released from the

system.

5.

Using a plastic mallet, tap the side cover (4)

loose and at the same time, turn the

adjusting screw (1) clockwise. The adjusting

screw (1) is attached to the sector shaft (8)

and must be completely unscrewed from the

side cover (4).

6.

Remove the gasket (6) from the side cover.

This gasket may not be re-used.

getting into the needle bearing.

7.

Remove the sector shaft oil seal (7) from the

side cover with a universal internal puller.

Ensure that when removing the

sector shaft oil seal, the needle

bearing (5) is not damaged.

8.

Check the needle bearing for freedom of

movement and damage after removing the

sector shaft oil seal.
