Symptom:

P0952-AUTOSTICK INPUT CIRCUIT LOW

When Monitored and Set Condition:

P0952-AUTOSTICK INPUT CIRCUIT LOW

When Monitored:

Whenever the engine is running.

Set Condition:

The transmission is not in the Autostick position and the upshift or

downshift is reporting closed - below 0.3 volts or if both switches are reported closed at the
same time.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

AUTOSTICK

t SWITCH

AUTOSTICK

t DOWNSHIFT SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND

AUTOSTICK

t UPSHIFT SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE

INTERMITTENT WIRING AND CONNECTORS

ACTION

APPLICABILITY

With the DRBIII

t, Check the STARTS SINCE SET counter for P0951.

Note: This counter only applies to the last DTC set.
Is the Starts Since Set counter set at 0?

All

Yes

→ Go To 2

→ Go To 6

Turn the ignition off to the lock position.
Disconnect the AutoStick

t Switch harness connector.

Note: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Ignition on, engine not running.
Measure the voltage of both the AutoStick

t Upshift and Downshift sense circuits.

Is the voltage above 5.0 volts on both circuits?

All

Yes

→ Replace the AutoStickt Switch per the Service Information.

→ Go To 3

APPLICABILITY

Turn the ignition off to the lock position.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
Disconnect the AutoStick

t Switch harness connector.

Note: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
CAUTION: DO NOT PROBE THE PCM HARNESS CONNECTORS. PROBING
THE PCM HARNESS CONNECTORS WILL DAMAGE THE PCM TERMI-
NALS RESULTING IN POOR TERMINAL TO PIN CONNECTION. INSTALL
MILLER SPECIAL TOOL #8815 TO PERFORM DIAGNOSIS.
Measure the resistance between ground and the AutoStick

t Downshift Sense circuit.

Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

All

Yes

→ Repair the AutoStickt Downshift Sense circuit for a short to

ground.
Perform 40/41TE (NGC) TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION
TEST - VER 1.

→ Go To 4

Turn the ignition off to the lock position.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
Disconnect the AutoStick

t Switch harness connector.

t Upshift Sense circuit.

Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

All

Yes

→ Repair the AutoStickt Upshift Sense circuit for a short to ground.

Perform 40/41TE (NGC) TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION
TEST - VER 1.

→ Go To 5

Ignition on, engine not running.
With the DRBIII

t display the AutoStickt Switch status.

Shift into AutoStick

Push the shift lever to the right several times to actuate the AutoStick

t Upshift

Switch and then to the left several times to actuate the AutoStick

t Downshift Switch.

Do both AutoStick

t Upshift and Downshift Switch states toggle?

All

Yes

→ Test Complete.

→ Replace the Powertrain Control Module per the Service Informa-

tion. WITH THE DRBIII

t PERFORM QUICK LEARN AND

REPROGRAM PINION FACTOR.

APPLICABILITY

The conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time.
Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this
circuit.
Wiggle the wires while checking for shorts and open circuits.
With the DRBIII

t, check the EATX EVENT DATA to help identify the conditions in

which the DTC was set.
Were there any problems found?

All

Yes

→ Repair as necessary.

→ Test Complete.
