Perform TEST SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION 1A Before Proceeding

Ensure there is communication with the body control module before proceeding. If any communi-
cation problems . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .perform ‘‘Vehicle Communication’’ TEST 1A.

1. With the DRB, select ‘‘Body System’’, ‘‘Body Computer’’, ‘‘Sensors’’. Read the ‘‘Ignition

Voltage’’. If it does not show battery voltage when the ignition key is on . . . .perform ‘‘Vehicle
Communication’’ TEST 14A.

2. Turn the ignition on. With the DRB select ‘‘Electro/Mech Cluster’’. If the DRB shows ‘‘No

3. With the DRB, select ‘‘Monitor Display’’, then ‘‘PCI Bus Engine Info.’’. If the DRB shows ‘‘No

Diagnostics for the instrument cluster are separated into six groups. Verify the failure or the
customer’s complaint and make sure the vehicle is experiencing the problem at this time. Choose
the applicable item from the list below and perform the indicated test.

NOTE: If the problem is with the speedometer, tachometer, or temperature gauges intermittently
going to zero or to the lowest point, use the DRB and select ‘‘Monitor Display’’, then ‘‘Engine Info’’.
While wiggling the wire harness and connectors between the cluster and BCM, if the DRB says ‘‘No
Response’’, disconnect the appropriate connectors (refer to the service manual for connector
locations containing the PCI bus circuits) and inspect the terminals for corrosion and for spread or
pushed out terminals.
