IDENTIFYING AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL PROBLEMS

Perform TEST SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION 1A Before Proceeding

Ensure there is communication with the ‘‘Body Control Module’’, and the ‘‘Powertrain Control
Module’’ before proceeding.
If any communication problems:. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .perform ‘‘Vehicle Communication’’ TEST 1A.

1. With the DRB, select ‘‘Engine’’, ‘‘Read DTCs’’. If any diagnostic trouble codes are present,

record and compare them with Fig. 1
If any climate-related codes are present, refer to the appropriate powertrain diagnostic manual.

2. With the DRB, select ‘‘Body System’’, ‘‘Body Computer’’, ‘‘Sensors’’. Read the ‘‘Ignition

Voltage’’. If it does not show battery voltage when the ignition
key is on . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .perform ‘‘Vehicle Communication’’ TEST 14A.

3. With the DRB, select ‘‘Body System’’, ‘‘Body Computer’’, ‘‘Read DTCs’’

4. With the DRB, select ‘‘Body System’’, ‘‘Auto Temp Ctrl’’.

Perform TEST 1A Before Proceeding

1. Record and erase the trouble code(s).

2. Set the ATC at 75°, start the engine, and using the DRB select ‘‘Body Computer’’ ‘‘Read

DTCs)’’.

If no code appears, slowly run the ATC control from 65° to 85°, then back to 65° while looking
for BCM codes. If a code appears, perform the indicated test from the list below.

If a code still does not appear, continue by running the ATC control from 60° to 90°, then back
to 60°. Push each mode and temp button in turn, waiting 30 seconds between each one. Upon
seeing the first code appear, erase the code and perform the indicated test from the list below.

3. If no codes appear following the steps above, recalibrate the doors by pressing and holding the

floor, floor and defrost, and the defrost buttons at the same time until the display starts to flash.
Observe the DRB for codes. When the first code appears, erase the code and perform the
indicates test from the list below.

NOTE: If multiple codes appear, repair any that relate to a short circuit first. If a short to battery code
is set, all 4 ‘‘Output Shorted to Battery’’ codes will appear. It will then be necessary to isolate each
circuit to determine which circuit is at fault.

4. If no codes are seen, observe the climate system performance, then continue TEST 1A.
