YES: The original CD is faulty.  

NO: Replace the audio unit.  

CD SKIPS 

1. Confirm that the tires are properly inflated.  

2. Check the system for when the skipping occurs. 

Does the skipping only occur on rough roads? 

YES: Go to step 4 .  

NO: Go to step 3.  

3. Check the CD for damage. 

Is the CD damaged? 

YES: Go to step 5 .  

NO: Replace the audio-HVAC display module.  

4. Compare the CD skipping to a similar vehicle under the same conditions. 

Does the similar vehicle's CD skip under the same conditions? 

YES: Operation is normal.  

NO: Go to step 5.  

5. Try a known-good CD. 

Does the symptom recur? 

YES: Replace the audio-HVAC display module.  

NO: The original CD is faulty.  

AUDIO SYSTEM SOUND IS WEAK OR DISTORTED, OR NO SOUND IS HEARD FROM 
SPEAKERS 

1. See if the problem recurs with the tuner and more than one CD. 

Does the problem recur using the tuner as well as CDs? 

YES: Go to step 2.  

NO: Go to "poor radio reception or interference" troubleshooting.  

2. Check to see if the problem affects all speakers. 

Are all speakers affected? 

YES: Go to step 4 .  

NO: Go to step 3.  

3. Check the speaker(s) with the problem for damage. 

Is the speaker(s) damaged? 

YES: Replace the damaged speaker(s) and recheck. 

NOTE:

Set the fader and balance position to the center.

NO: Go to step 4.  

4. Check fuse No. 5 (20A) and No. 32 (7.5A) in the under-dash fuse/relay box. 

Are the fuses OK? 

YES: Go to step 5.  

NO: Replace the fuse and recheck.  

5. Turn the ignition switch OFF.  

6. Remove the audio-HVAC display module (see AUDIO-HVAC DISPLAY MODULE 

REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).  

7. Disconnect stereo amplifier connectors A (20P) and B (14P).  

8. Measure voltage between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminal No. 10 and body ground. 

Is there battery voltage? 

YES: Go to step 9.  

NO: Repair open in the wire between fuse No. 5 (20A) in the under-dash fuse/relay box and 
the stereo amplifier.  

9. Turn the ignition switch to ACC (I).  

10. Measure voltage between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminal No. 9 and body ground. 

Is there battery voltage? 

YES: Go to step 11.  

NO: Repair open in the wire between fuse No. 32 (7.5A) in the under-dash fuse/relay box 
and the stereo amplifier.  

11. Connect audio unit connector A (20P).  

12. Measure voltage between stereo amplifier connector B (14P) terminal No. 7 and body ground. 

Is there battery voltage? 

YES: Go to step 13.  

NO: Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier.  

13. Turn the ignition switch OFF.  

14. Check for continuity between stereo amplifier connector B (14P) No. 14 terminal and body ground. 

Is there continuity? 

YES: Go to step 15.  

NO: Repair open in the wire between the stereo amplifier and ground (G504). If the wire is 
OK inspect the ground.  

15. Check for continuity between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) No. 20 terminal and body ground. 

Is there continuity? 

YES: Go to step 16.  

NO: Repair open in the wire between the stereo amplifier and ground (G504). If the wire is 
OK inspect the ground.  

16. Disconnect audio unit connector A (20P).  

17. Check for continuity between the audio unit connector A and body ground on the following terminals. 

See Fig. 43 .

Is there continuity? 

YES: Repair the short to ground between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier.  

NO: Go to step 18.

18. Check for continuity between the stereo amplifier connector B (14P) stereo amplifier input terminals and 

the appropriate shield terminals. See Fig. 44 . 

Is there continuity? 

YES: Repair the short in the harness between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier.  

NO: Go to step 19.

19. Measure resistance between the stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminals listed for each of the 

speaker circuits. See Fig. 45 . 

Is the resistance as specified? 

YES: Go to step 20.  

NO: Replace the appropriate speaker and retry.
