Note

When installing a new PCM/CDR in a vehicle, the PCM/CDR code specified in IPAS should be
present. Normally, the code is stored in the instrument cluster, and is read out from the PCM/CDR.

You can get the codes from IPAS or from your importer by specifying the vehicle identification
number.

• 

During coding, there should be a guaranteed power supply for the PIWIS tester 9718. It is essential
to connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A to the vehicle battery.

• 

The PIWIS tester 9718 instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy these are the
instructions that must be followed. Deviations may occur with later software versions.

•

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may
appear in the PIWIS tester 9718.

• 

1. Connect the PIWIS tester 9718 to the vehicle and start it. Switch on the ignition. >> Continue.

2. Select the vehicle

type.

3. Using the >> key, move from the vehicle type to the list of control units.

4. Select PCM-MMI and press

the >> .

5. In the menu PCM-MMI, select Control unit replacement and press the >> .

6. Select Read coding and press >> .

7. On the screen of the PIWIS tester appears the message Coding read-out complete >> .

8. Switch off ignition and replace the PCM. → 911019 Removing and installing PCM display and operator

control unit

9. Switch on ignition << return to vehicle type, for the control units select Special functions and start

the vehicle handover with F8 .

10. Read out and erase all fault memories.

11. Using the >> change from vehicle type to control units.

12. Select PCM-MMI and press the >> .

13. In the menu PCM-MMI, select Control unit replacement and press the >> .

14. Under the menu Write coding, the data read out (see Section 7) is installed >> .

15. PIWIS tester displays Coding write-in complete >> .

16. In the menu PCM-MMI, select Required &amp; Actual Configuration and press the >> .

17. Compare the Actual/Required listing. Use F8 to start Mapping. All installed audio components will now

be listed with a plus under Actual/Required.

18. Read out the fault memory again and erase as necessary.

19. PCM is now taught.

Note

The procedure described must be applied when a control unit has to be replaced and the tester function
Control unit replacement

 cannot be used.

1. Connect the PIWIS tester 9718 to the vehicle and start it. Switch on the ignition. >> Continue.

2. Switch on ignition << return to vehicle type, for the control units select Special functions and start

the vehicle handover with F8 .

3. Read out and erase all fault memories.

4. Switch from the vehicle type to the list of control units

5. Select PCM and press the >> .

6. In the menu PCM, select PCM2 MMI und press the >> .

7. Select Control unit replacement with the cursor keys and press the >> key.

8. Select Write coding and write in the coding. (Even if no coding data was read out, the required data is

loaded for the control unit.)

9. Select Coding and press >> .

10. Select Equipment and press >> .

12. Select Country coding and the relevant country, and code with
