wiper and washer, it may damage
the wiper and washer system.

Auto control (if equipped)

Type A

The rain sensor (A) located on the
upper end of the windshield glass
senses the amount of rainfall and
controls the wiping cycle for the
proper interval. The more it rains,
the faster the wiper operates. When
the rain stops, the wiper stops.

To vary the speed setting, turn the
speed control knob (1).

If the wiper switch is set in AUTO
mode when the ignition switch is
ON, the wiper will operate once to
perform a self-check of the system.
Set the wiper to OFF (O) position
when the wiper is not in use.

WARNING

When the ignition switch is ON and
the windshield wiper switch is
placed in the AUTO mode, use cau-
tion in the following situations to
avoid any injury to the hands or
other parts of the body:
䳜 Do not touch the upper end of the

windshield glass facing the rain
sensor.

䳜 Do not wipe the upper end of the

windshield glass with a damp or
wet cloth.

䳜 Do not put pressure on the wind-

shield glass.

CAUTION

䳜 When washing the vehicle, set the

wiper switch in the OFF (O) posi-
tion to stop the auto wiper opera-
tion.
The wiper may operate and be
damaged if the switch is set in the
AUTO mode while washing the
vehicle.

䳜 Do not remove the sensor cover

located on the upper end of the
passenger side windshield glass.
Damage to system parts could
occur and may not be covered by
your vehicle warranty.

䳜 When starting the vehicle in win-

ter, set the wiper switch in the
OFF (O) position. Otherwise, wip-
ers may operate and ice may
damage the windshield wiper

blades. Always remove all snow
and ice and defrost the windshield
properly prior to operating the
windshield wipers.

Operating windshield washer

Use this function when the wind-
shield is dirty.

1. Move the wiper speed control

switch to the OFF position.

2. Pull the lever gently toward you

to spray washer fluid on the
windshield and to run the wipers
1-3 cycles.
The spray and wiper operation
will continue until you release the
lever.

If the washer does not work, check
the washer fluid level. If the fluid
level is not sufficient, you will need
to add appropriate non-abrasive
windshield washer fluid to the
washer reservoir.

The reservoir filler neck is located in
the front of the motor compart-
ment on the passenger side.

CAUTION

Washer pump
To prevent possible damage to the
washer pump, do not operate the
washer when the fluid reservoir is
empty.

WARNING

Obscured visibility
Do not use the washer in freezing
temperatures without first warming
the windshield with the defrosters;
the washer solution could freeze on
the windshield and obscure your
vision.

CAUTION

Wipers & windshields
䳜 To prevent possible damage to

the wipers or windshield, do not
operate the wipers when the
windshield is dry.

䳜 To prevent damage to the wiper

blades, do not use gasoline, kero-
sene, paint thinner, or other sol-
vents on or near them.

䳜 To prevent damage to the wiper

arms and other components, do
not attempt to move the wipers
manually.

Heated washer nozzle (if equipped)

The heated washer nozzle function
defreeze the washer nozzles in
freezing weather.

The heated washer nozzle will turn
on and off automatically when the
ignition switch is in ON or when the
engine is running in following condi-
tions:
䳜 Turns ON when the outside tem-

perature is below 5  C, and OFF
when it is over 10  C.

䳜 The washer fluid defreezing

speed may be slower when the
ignition is in ON, than compared to
when the engine is running.

䳜 When the ignition is in ON, after

20 minutes of operation, the sys-
tem will turn off automatically to
prevent possible battery dis-
charge.

䳜 After the engine is running, the

washer fluid will defrost after 5 to
10 minutes.

䳜 If the engine has been started

within the operating temperature,
the heated nozzle remains ON
even after 20 minutes.

NOTICE

In below conditions, the heated
washer nozzle may not function
properly.
䳜 The washer fluids in the washer

reservoir is frozen.

Mode selection

The mode selection knob controls
the direction of the air flow through
the ventilation system.

Air can be directed to the floor,
dashboard outlets, or windshield.
Five symbols are used to represent
Face, Bi-Level, Floor, Floor-Defrost
and Defrost air position.

Face-Level (B, D)

Air flow is directed toward the
upper body and face. Additionally,
each outlet can be controlled to
direct the air discharged from the
outlet.

Bi-Level (B, D, C, E)

Air flow is directed towards the face
and the floor.

Floor-Level (C, E, A, D)

Most of the air flow is directed to
the floor, with a small amount of
the air being directed to the wind-
shield and side window defrosters.

Floor/Defrost-Level (A, C, D, E)

Most of the air flow is directed to
the floor and the windshield with a
small amount directed to the side
window defrosters.

Defrost-Level (A, D)

Most of the air flow is directed to
the windshield with a small amount
of air directed to the side window
defrosters.

Instrument panel vents

The outlet vents can be opened or
closed separately using the thumb-
wheel. To close the vent, rotate it
downward to the maximum posi-
tion.

Also, you can adjust the direction of

NOTICE

Prolonged operation of the heater in
the recirculated air position (without
air conditioning selected) may cause
fogging of the windshield and side
windows and the air within the pas-
senger compartment may become
stale.
In addition, prolonged use of the air
conditioning with the recirculated air
position selected will result in
excessively dry air in the passenger
compartment.

WARNING

䳜 Continue using the climate control

system in the recirculated air
position may allow humidity to
increase inside the vehicle which
may fog the glass and obscure
visibility.

䳜 Do not sleep in a vehicle with the

air conditioning or heating system
on. It may cause serious harm or
death due to a drop in the oxygen
level and/or body temperature.

䳜 Continue using the climate control

system in the recirculated air
position can cause drowsiness or
sleepiness, and loss of vehicle
control. Set the air intake control
to the outside (fresh) air position
as much as possible while driving.

Controlling fan speed

The fan speed control knob allows
you to control the fan speed of the
air flowing from the ventilation sys-
tem.

The ignition switch must be in the
ON position for fan operation.

To change the fan speed:
䳜 Turn the knob to the right for

higher speed or left for lower
speed.

䳜 Setting the fan speed control

ulation in your country at the time
of producing. You can find out
which air conditioning refrigerant is
applied your vehicle at the label
inside of engine room.

CAUTION

䳜 The refrigerant system should

only be serviced by trained and

NOTICE

䳜 When using the air conditioning

system, monitor the temperature
gauge closely while driving up hills
or in heavy traffic when outside
temperatures are high. Air condi-
tioning system operation may
cause engine overheating. Con-
tinue to use the blower fan but
turn the air conditioning system
off if the temperature gauge indi-
cates engine overheating.

䳜 When opening the windows in

humid weather air conditioning
may create water droplets inside
the vehicle. Since excessive water
droplets may cause damage to
electrical equipment, air condi-
tioning should only be used with
the windows closed.
